Our Focus
Annie Fisher Montessori celebrates the fact that every child learns differently, and through experimental hands-on work, children can have the ability to develop concentration, motivation, persistence, and discipline. Instruction is based on the child’s inherent love of learning and is encouraged by giving them the opportunities to engage in spontaneous, meaningful activities.
The Montessori Method, based on the highly successful theories of Maria Montessori, is taught in 125 countries in 22,000 schools. The goal of a Montessori Education is to graduate students with a vision of what the world can be and the wherewithal to lead and accomplish that mission.
Montessori is “Education for Peace.”
Accolades
Annie Fisher Montessori (AFM) is proud be an AMI Recognized school. AFM is one of only four public schools nationwide to be Recognized at both the Primary and Elementary Levels by Association Montessori Internationale. To be an Recognized AMI Public Montessori School, a school must follow the AMI standards and have consultation visits every three years to assure the standards are consistently being met. During these visits, each classroom guide is observed; and a report for each, as well as an overall report of the school, is submitted along with recommendation for association (if standards are met). Both Primary and Elementary have gained “recognition" status, the highest level of accreditation awarded by AMI.

Curriculum
Our school offers a public Montessori Education, AMI fully equipped classrooms, and land-based learning in 7th and 8th Grades (Erdkinder) at Auerfarm in Bloomfield.
Extra Curricular Activities
P.E., Music, Literacy, and Art are offered through Montessori Explorations and are integrated throughout the child’s extension work.
Technology
The technology we provide for Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Erdkinder is used to conduct research based on each student’s interest.

Foster Independence–Montessori education respects every child’s different pace of development. Teachers or “guides” observe and plan activities that best serve the needs of each individual child.
Integrated Academic and Social Curriculum–Montessori materials encourage exploration of five major areas: Practical Life, Sensorial Experience, Math, Language and Culture.
Hands-on Learning–Students learn through observing and interacting with their environment through guided exploration and discovery.

Our Mixed Age Group Environments include:
Primary (PK3-K; ages 3-6)
Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3; ages 6-9)
Upper Elementary (Grades 4-6; ages 9-12)
Erdkinder (Grades 7-8; ages 12-14).
Academic disciplines are not subjects to be studied, they are lenses through which we Examine the World & Society.
Community Partnerships include Auerfarm, Hartford Performs, Watkinson School, and National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector.
School Uniforms
Plain navy blue polo shirts and khaki bottoms. Plain navy blue sweaters can be worn during the colder months. Please remember, NO LOGOS!
Children are relaxed and comfortable, but neat and ready to learn.
