Social Studies and History
The Social Studies course sequence is designed to foster an understanding of the democratic values on which our country was founded and to encourage responsible citizenship through the study of history and the social sciences. Through the study of the past and present, students can reach an understanding of themselves and of our society. Through specific course selection, students can develop a sense of identity and understand their place in human history. They can come to understand our common political vision, which is essential to liberty, equality, and justice in a multicultural society. They can recognize the value of multiple perspectives and detect bias, preparing them for responsible decision-making in their own personal and professional lives.

The Digital Classroom Site – The Digital Classroom Site run by the National Archives and Records Administration has primary sources, activities and training for educators and students aimed at encouraging learners at all levels to use archival materials in the classroom.
Historychannel.com – Extensive resources on most time periods, resources using History Channel programming, and extremely useful classroom section with emphases on Hometown History, National History Day, Save Our History, lesson ideas, and links to other history resources.
The Library of Congress – Users can search the catalog of the Library. Includes an online gallery, Kids and families section, and calendars of news and events at the Library.
