Vision

We envision a future where all individuals and families achieve greater safety, stability, and independence in compassionate communities where people are valued, connected, and take care of one another.

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Hartford is an HPS Community Partner at McDonough Middle School.

We work to support the entire McDonough family with several different holistic initiatives.

The C.H.I.L.L. Spot at McDonough

This is a daily after-school program that promotes literacy, positive youth development, physical arts and culture.

Students participate in community building activities and enjoy amazing programs like Cooking, DJ’ing, Creative Art, Anime & Athletic Education. This program is free to all McDonough students, snacks and supper are provided daily. Due to COVID we are adapting our programming for in person and virtual instruction.

Clinical Services

Catholic Charities clinicians are passionate about bringing healing to people who have been through a traumatic experience. We help students and families to find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen interpersonal relationships through a range of modalities, including Relational Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and other approaches to the treatment of trauma.

Summer Programming

Summer Survivor

Loosely based on the television show. We bring students together for a deep dive into selected cultures, countries and neighborhoods to participate in daily challenges (physical and academic). Summer Survivor encourages personal and social development through teamwork and daily discussion. Points are awarded throughout the program, students on the winning team each earn a $100 Gift Card at the final day of program.

We Lead

A leadership program for rising 9th grade students. Students who are accepted into program earn a weekly stipend learning about the tenet of leadership (per Mindset Matters curriculum).
