Important Update about PowerSchool

We received notification yesterday that one of our software systems, PowerSchool, experienced a cybersecurity incident that may have resulted in some data being accessed including that of Hartford Public Schools. This was a national incident impacting numerous school districts and not specific to Hartford Public Schools.

Based on the information received from PowerSchool, data about students may have been accessed, including name and contact information. Importantly, Hartford Public Schools does not store social security numbers or any other financial information in PowerSchool; therefore, no student, no staff, nor family financial information was compromised.

There may be media coverage of this incident that references access to social security numbers, and that is because other school districts keep social security numbers in PowerSchool, but Hartford Public Schools does not.HPS staff members are communicating regularly with PowerSchool to ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information. Because no financial information was compromised, no action is needed on your part at this time. We understand that this situation may cause concern, and we are committed to keeping you informed as we learn more. If we receive additional or different information from PowerSchool, we will send an updated message.
