Hartford Public High School
HPHS Multilingual students sharing reports about the various countries celebrated during Hispanic Heritage month, followed by culinary delights from their own countries. Middle photo: Freshman student was the DJ who played the national anthem from each country!
Hartford Public High School
During culture week at HPHS, Spanish teacher, Paola Rosa Media and her students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Students were encouraged to participate in a gallery walk, choosing materials related to the Dominican Republic from a designated table. After material selection, students participated in group discussions to share their findings and deepen their understanding of Dominican culture and history. Finally, they shared the Mask-Making Activity, Students actively participated in creating 'mascaras de carnaval' with designs that reflected the colors and symbols associated with their respective flags. Ms. Medina used a Dominican Traditional Dress.
HPS Represents at the 2023 Hartford Puerto Rican Day Parade
On October 8, 2023, our Superintendent. Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez was proud to join Hartford Public Schools in this year’s Puerto Rican Day Parade; marching alongside Board Vice Chair A.J. Johnson, our students, families and colleagues from Wish School, S.A.N.D. School, Sanchez School, Rawson School, and Parkville Community School. To our entire community: ¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!
Milner Middle School
On September 27, 2023, the Milner students and families had an amazing time celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Shout out to the Milner kiddos and their amazing music teacher, Ms.Miliken for putting on a memorable show!

Breakthrough Magnet School South
Breakthrough Magnet School South celebrated with a special school-wide performance by Bomba de Aquí, a dance and music company that specializes in Afro-Puerto Rican traditions. The performers shared their cultures with the students through drumming, dancing, and singing.
Wish School
A special shoutout to Mikaella Griguelo Santiago, a student at Wish Museum School, who shared our Superintendent's story in a video message to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! She talked about how Dr. Torres-Rodriguez moved to Hartford from Puerto Rico and how she became Superintendent. Dr. Torres-Rodriguez was so humbled and honored by the video, she made a visit to Wish to meet Mikaella and thank her in person!
