Angela Blake, 7th & 8th Grade Science Teacher, Betances STEM Magnet School
Time flies when you’re having fun! This Angela Blake's 8th year teaching in Hartford. After teaching at Hartford Public High School’s credit recovery program, she joined the Betances STEM Magnet School family. Though born and raised in Hartford, Ms. Blake attended Plainville Public Schools as part of Project Concern now known as Open Choice. She went on to pursue her Bachelor's degree in Biology, and is a proud HBCU graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC. When Angela came back to CT, she obtained her teaching license and Master's degree in Education Technology at University of Saint Joseph.
Ms. Blake reflects, "Teaching is not just a job for me, it is my purpose and part of my life’s work. Learning should be an experience, and I want my students to know and see science everywhere by connecting science principles to life principles. It is my goal to be a transformational teacher helping transform minds by teaching students how to think critically and not what to think. I aim to cultivate minds to think for a change by changing their narrative and breaking barriers so they can see themselves as leaders, creatives, innovators, and change-agents in STEM and in life by Speaking Life and Teaching Life!"
When she is not teaching, Angela enjoys reading, taking road trips, kayaking, dancing, traveling, and taking walks in nature. She also mentors young girls, helping them through life transitions. Ms. Blake believes in the village, "If we all work together, we can empower this next generation to take the lead and be who they were purposed to be."
