The Hartford Public Library is now one of the eight public libraries across the United States to host a special NASA exhibit. Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez and Hartford Public Library CEO Bridget Quinn attended the kickoff to the “Moon, Mars and Beyond” NASA exhibit on Thursday, July 6 at the Hartford Public Library Ropkins Branch. The event included space-themed crafts, book giveaways, as well as demonstration by UCONN STARS, a solar telescope, and an inflatable planetarium show. The exhibit is a fun, interactive and educational way to learn more about space. The Albany, Barbour, Camp Field, Dwight, and Park branches are participating in these exhibits as well with different activities at each branch.
The NASA Exhibit is also a great way to dive into the 2023 summer reading challenge “3 2 1 Hartford Blast-off.” Hartford residents ages 19 and younger are encouraged to participate in this challenge. Those who spend at least 20 minutes reading everyday and record that time can be eligible for grand prizes such as speakers, throwing the first pitch at a Yard Goats Game, and having lunch with the Mayor. Join Hartford Public Schools and Hartford Public Library this summer by participating in the summer reading challenge and visiting the NASA exhibits at your local library.
“The reading challenge and this NASA event builds a collective spirit, and it’s an effort that can help us all truly explore reading,” said Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez. “Every minute we spend reading is progress made in our mission as lifelong learners.”
