<NEW> Hartford Promise Scholars Surprised with College Acceptance
I had the great pleasure of joining Hartford Promise and the University of Hartford to surprise 12 high school seniors with some exciting news. The students from Weaver High School, Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts, and Bulkeley High School learned they were not only accepted to the University of Hartford, but they’d also be receiving the Hartford Promise Scholarship worth $5,000 a year and free housing! I loved seeing their reactions and hearing about their post-secondary goals. The future is very bright for these seniors and so many of our other students. A big congratulations to all of the students who have been accepted to a college or university already, and a big thank you to the dedicated staff at Hartford Public Schools and Hartford Promise who continuously help make student dreams come true.
<NEW> Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Selects Leadership Team
This week, the members of my Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) voted to select their leadership team. I’m excited to announce that the following students have been elected:
Zari Reed, President (Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts, 11th grade)
Uzoma Chukwurah, Vice President (Classical Magnet School, 12th grade)
Khiara Hill, Treasurer (Classical Magnet School, 10th grade)
Tiamoy (Tia) Martin, Secretary (Weaver High School, 12th grade)
Zari and Uzoma will serve as primary representatives for the Council, joining the Board of Education at their regular meetings to lift student voice and advocate for their peers. Their first meeting with the Board was Tuesday, December 19. I am so proud of the entire Council for their collaboration, leadership and dedication to improving the school experience.
<NEW> Wishes for a Safe and Happy Winter Break
Due to our winter recess, there will be no school for students from December 25 through January 2. Students will return on Wednesday, January 3. The District Central Office will be closed from December 25 through January 1, reopening on January 2.
As we prepare for this well-deserved break, I want to take a moment to thank all of our staff, our partners, our families and our students for their hard work and perseverance this year. I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished as a community, and I am confident that in 2024 there will be great things in store for Hartford Public Schools.
I hope you spend the next week relaxing, recharging, and enjoying fun times with loved ones. We have a lot to accomplish when we return to the classrooms in January, and I look forward to seeing our beautiful and capable students shine!

<NUEVO> Becarios de Hartford sorprendidos con la admisión a la universidad
Tuve el enorme placer de unirme a Hartford Promise y a la Universidad de Hartford para sorprender a 12 estudiantes de último año de la secundaria con algunas noticias emocionantes. Los estudiantes de la Escuela Secundaria Weaver High School, la Escuela Técnica/Artística Kinsella de Artes Escénicas y la Escuela Secundaria Bulkeley se enteraron de que no solo fueron admitidos en la Universidad de Hartford, ¡sino que también recibirán la Beca Hartford Promise que asciende a $5,000 al año y vivienda gratuita! Me encantó ver sus reacciones y enterarme de cuáles son sus metas para después de la secundaria. El futuro es muy brillante para estos estudiantes de último año y para muchos de nuestros otros estudiantes. Muchas felicidades para todos los estudiantes que ya fueron admitidos en una institución terciaria o una universidad, y muchas gracias a los dedicados miembros del personal de las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford y Hartford Promise quienes de forma continua ayudan a que los sueños de los estudiantes se hagan realidad.
<NUEVO> Consejo Asesor Estudiantil del Superintendente selecciona al equipo de liderazgo
Esta semana, los miembros de mi Consejo Asesor Estudiantil del Superintendente (SSAC, por sus siglas en inglés) votaron para elegir a su equipo de liderazgo. Me emociona anunciar que fueron elegidos los siguientes estudiantes:
● Zari Reed, Presidente (Escuela Técnica/Artística Kinsella de Artes Escénicas, 11.º grado)
● Uzoma Chukwurah, Vicepresidente (Escuela Magnet Clásica, 12.º grado)
● Khiara Hill, Tesorera (Escuela Magnet Clásica, 10.º grado)
● Tiamoy (Tia) Martin, Secretaria (Escuela Secundaria Weaver, 12.º grado)
Zari y Uzoma serán las representantes principales en el Consejo y participarán en las reuniones habituales de la Junta de Educación para plantear las opiniones de los estudiantes y defender a sus pares. Su primera reunión con la Junta fue el martes, 19 de diciembre. Estoy muy orgullosa de todo el Consejo por su colaboración, liderazgo y dedicación en pos de mejorar la experiencia escolar.
<NUEVO> Deseos de que las vacaciones de invierno sean seguras y felices
Debido a nuestro receso de invierno, los estudiantes no concurrirán a la escuela desde el 25 de diciembre hasta el 2 de enero. Su regreso será el miércoles, 3 de enero. La Oficina Central del Distrito estará cerrada desde el 25 de diciembre hasta el 1.º de enero y reabrirá el 2 de enero.
Mientras nos preparamos para estas muy merecidas vacaciones, deseo tomarme un momento para agradecer a todos los miembros de nuestro personal, a nuestros aliados, a nuestras familias y a nuestros estudiantes por su arduo trabajo y su perseverancia este año. Estoy muy orgullosa de lo que hemos logrado como comunidad y confío en que en 2024 habrá grandes cosas por venir para las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford.
Espero que la próxima semana sea relajante, que recarguen sus energías y que disfruten momentos divertidos con sus seres queridos. Tenemos mucho por lograr cuando regresemos a las aulas en enero, ¡y espero con ansias ver brillar a nuestros hermosos y capaces estudiantes!
