<NEW> New Boundless Library Opens at West Middle School
I had the pleasure of joining our friends from the Hartford Public Library for the grand opening of a new Boundless Library at West Middle School. Thanks to a generous grant from The Hartford, we were able to renovate the existing library media center, employ a full-time HPL librarian, and add more resources for our students! In addition to a wide variety of books, the Boundless Library will offer Launchpad tablets, audio books, and more. This is the second Boundless Library in our district. The first Boundless Library opened at Rawson school five years ago. I’m so grateful for our partnership with the Hartford Public Library. Together, we’re expanding learning opportunities for our students and providing more resources to help them succeed. On February 12, I’ll be joining my HPS colleagues, our partners at Hartford Parent University, and other organizations for a learning session focused on literacy. We’ll be discussing the new English Language Arts curriculum that we’ll be implementing in the 2024-2025 school year. Plus, we’ll share ways that you can help your students improve their reading, writing and comprehension skills at home! The event begins at 5:30 pm at The Lyceum at 227 Lawrence Street in Hartford. <NEW> Weaver Celebrates 100 years!
Happy Birthday to Weaver High School! This week, the school celebrated its 100th anniversary of serving students in the Hartford area. Their celebration included music, dancing, and a presentation on the history of the school. One of the many things that makes Hartford Public Schools so special is the rich history and legacy of our schools. Congratulations to our Weaver students, staff, families, and alumni!
As a reminder, our annual Education Expo is this Saturday, February 3 at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy! Stop by anytime between 10 am and 1 pm to learn more about our different school and programs offerings and meet representatives from across the district. This is a great opportunity to explore your school options, receive assistance with the School Choice application, and learn about other programs throughout Hartford Public Schools. Representatives from our Office of Talent Management will be there as well to talk about job openings in the district. There will also be food, giveaways, and entertainment. <REMINDER> Black History Month Begins
February 1 is the start of Black History Month. Hartford Public Schools is committed to lifting all voices, cultures, and backgrounds each and every day, but this month we’ll take a deeper look at the contributions of Black Americans through culturally responsive teaching, events, and activities in our schools. It's important that we take the time to recognize and celebrate the stories of our diverse community so our students can be exposed to other perspectives, experiences and customs and so they can see themselves in the accomplishments of those who came before them. As Superintendent, I am proud to work in a district that prioritizes inclusivity and strives to create environments where all students feel seen, valued, and heard. I hope you continue to monitor my weekly messages, our HPS website, and our social media accounts throughout the next few weeks as we highlight the ways our schools are recognizing Black History Month.

<NUEVO> Inauguración de una nueva Biblioteca Boundless en West Middle School
Tuve el placer de acompañar a nuestros amigos de la Biblioteca Pública de Hartford en la gran inauguración de una nueva Biblioteca Boundless en West Middle School. Gracias a la generosa subvención de The Hartford, ¡pudimos renovar el centro multimedia existente de la biblioteca, contratar a un bibliotecario a tiempo completo de la Biblioteca Pública de Hartford (HPL) y agregar más recursos para nuestros estudiantes! Además de una amplia variedad de libros, la Biblioteca Boundless ofrecerá tabletas Launchpad, audiolibros y más. Esta es la segunda Biblioteca Boundless de nuestro distrito. <NUEVO> ¡Weaver celebra sus 100 años!
¡Feliz cumpleaños a Weaver High School! Esta semana, la escuela celebró su centésimo aniversario de prestar servicios a los estudiantes del área de Hartford. Su celebración incluyó música, bailes y una presentación sobre la historia de la escuela. 1 de febrero es el comienzo del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana. Las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford están comprometidas a alzar todas las voces, culturas y orígenes todos los días, pero este mes analizaremos más profundamente las contribuciones de los afroamericanos a través de enseñanza culturalmente receptiva, eventos y actividades en nuestras escuelas.
