In an effort to respond to the needs of their school community, Bulkeley High School re-invented their Parent-Teacher Conferences. Bulkeley's Parent On-Track Conferences took place this semester on April 23 and 24.
School administration, staff and faculty believe that this innovation will have a significant impact on their students' achievement, as it has vastly increased parent/guardian attendance at the conferences over the last two cycles.
On the 23rd alone over 130 people attended the conferences.
Innovations include:
Holding the conferences at the south-end campus where most Bulkeley families reside (Bulkeley High School is currently functioning in two facilities while its main campus undergoes complete renovation.)
Holding the conference in a single large space. Families don't need to rush from classroom to classroom to connect with all their student's teachers
Each teacher sported a card stating the languages they speak
Helpful community organizations were onsite in the lobby to provide support to families who may need it. Organizations included, Hartford Public Library's An American Place, the Hispanic Health Council, Careforth, and the Bulkeley High School FCSSP, Myrna Metayer.
Food, refreshments and raffles gave the conferences a festival-feel
Families and students leave feedback before they depart
