Thank you for your continued partnership, as we work to ensure all our students succeed. Please see below for some updates from Hartford Public Schools.
<NEW> Budget Update: Investing Additional Funds
Hartford Public Schools is grateful to receive $6 million in additional funds from the state and the city for the 2024-2025 school year. As I have previously stated, we will invest that money in a way that best meets the needs of our students. Therefore, we plan to restore 24 teaching positions across our high schools, ensuring each high school receives at least one restored position, and 27 teaching positions in elementary and middle schools. This will allow schools to continue to offer more varied courses and elective offerings. The funding will also support the restoration of eight School Social Worker positions and six School Safety Officers.
While this is positive news for our students, families, and staff, I want to reiterate that the $5 million provided by the state is a one-time investment. There is still much work to do when it comes to creating sustainable funding structures that will allow us to continue to provide high quality instruction and engaging opportunities for our students in the long term. We will continue to keep you informed about our budget processes.
<NEW> Google Hosts Artificial Intelligence Learning Session for Staff
As part of my Google GSV Education Innovation Fellowship, I had the opportunity to bring some exciting learning opportunities to our teachers, administrators and staff. Today, Google for Education hosted a presentation tailored to Hartford Public Schools titled “Transforming Learning with the Power of Artificial Intelligence (AI).” Participants learned about how Google is reshaping the education landscape using AI to enhance personalization, accessibility, and efficiency. They also explored Google’s technology to discover how to leverage AI to create dynamic and personalized learning experiences. Today’s learning session is yet another tool for our staff and another step in their professional development journey to improve conditions for our HPS students.
<NEW> Celebrating Student Success
This time of year is always exciting, as we have so many opportunities to celebrate the success of our beautiful and capable students. I want to shout out my Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council for their visit to the State Capitol and the Legislative Office Building. The students received a tour and met with local representatives. I’m so proud of the insightful questions they asked and the engaging conversations they held with our elected officials. I’d like to express my deep gratitude to Representative Jeff Currey, the Chairman of the Education Committee, for taking the time to facilitate a roundtable discussion with the students.
I also want to shine a light on some exciting events that happened this week - our annual Seal of Biliteracy Awards, where more than 200 students were recognized for their multilingual abilities; the Hartford Youth Art Renaissance, which celebrates student artists at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art; our School Safety Officer Appreciation event to thank our SSOs for their important work; and the school-based events including the Mini Nursing Academy Graduation at Global Communications Academy, the Unified Arts Celebration at Breakthrough Magnet School North, the distribution of Blessing Bags at Expeditionary Learning Academy at Moylan School, and so many more. It fills me with joy to see all of the wonderful, innovative work happening all across our district. Thank you to the staff, partners, and families who create these opportunities for our students to succeed!
<REMINDER> Revised Academic Calendar
Please note that there has been an update to our 2024-2025 District-wide Academic Calendar. The calendar now reflects a new first day for students in a transitional grade. All students entering Kindergarten, Grade 6 and Grade 9 will begin the school year with a half day on Monday, August 26. All other students will begin with a full day on Tuesday, August 27. This does not apply to Capital Preparatory Magnet School students, who will begin their new school year in July.

<NUEVO> Actualización del presupuesto: Inversión de fondos adicionales
Las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford agradecen recibir $6 millones en fondos adicionales del Estado y la Ciudad para el año escolar 2024-2025. Como he dicho anteriormente, invertiremos ese dinero de la manera que mejor cubra las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes. Por lo tanto, tenemos previsto restablecer 24 puestos docentes en nuestras escuelas secundarias, garantizando que cada escuela secundaria reciba al menos un puesto restablecido, y 27 puestos docentes en las escuelas primarias e intermedias. Esto permitirá que las escuelas sigan ofreciendo cursos y optativas más variados. Los fondos también permitirán restablecer ocho puestos de trabajador social escolar y seis de agentes de seguridad escolar.
Aunque se trata de una noticia positiva para nuestros estudiantes, familias y personal, quiero reiterar que los $5 millones aportados por el Estado son una inversión por única vez. Aún queda mucho trabajo por hacer en lo que respecta a la creación de estructuras de financiación sostenibles que nos permitan seguir ofreciendo a nuestros estudiantes una enseñanza de alta calidad y oportunidades atractivas a largo plazo. <NUEVO> Google organiza una sesión de aprendizaje sobre inteligencia artificial para su personal
Como parte de mi beca Google GSV para la innovación educativa, he tenido la oportunidad de ofrecer interesantes oportunidades de aprendizaje a nuestros profesores, administradores y personal. Google for Education ha organizado hoy una presentación adaptada a las escuelas públicas de Hartford titulada "Transformar el aprendizaje con el poder de la inteligencia artificial (IA)". Los participantes aprendieron cómo Google está reestructurando el panorama educativo utilizando la IA para mejorar la personalización, la accesibilidad y la eficiencia. También exploraron la tecnología de Google para descubrir cómo aprovechar la IA para crear experiencias de aprendizaje dinámicas y personalizadas. La sesión formativa de hoy es una herramienta más para nuestro personal y otro paso en su camino de desarrollo profesional para mejorar las condiciones de nuestros estudiantes de las HPS.
<NUEVO> Celebración del éxito estudiantil
Esta época del año es siempre emocionante, ya que tenemos muchas oportunidades de celebrar el éxito de nuestros hermosos y capaces estudiantes. Quiero felicitar al Consejo asesor estudiantil de la Superintendenta por su visita al Capitolio del Estado y al Edificio de oficinas legislativas. Los estudiantes realizaron una visita guiada y se reunieron con representantes locales. Estoy muy orgullosa de las perspicaces preguntas que han formulado y de las interesantes conversaciones que han mantenido con nuestros funcionarios electos. Me gustaría expresar mi profunda gratitud al representante Jeff Currey, Presidente del Comité de Educación, por tomarse el tiempo para facilitar una mesa redonda con los estudiantes.

<RECORDATORIO> Calendario académico revisado
Tenga en cuenta que ha habido una actualización de nuestro Calendario académico 2024-2025 de todo el Distrito. El calendario ahora refleja un nuevo primer día para los estudiantes en un grado de transición. Todos los estudiantes que ingresan a jardín de infancia, 6.º grado y 9.º grado comenzarán el año escolar con medio día el lunes 26 de agosto. Todos los demás estudiantes comenzarán con un día completo el martes 27 de agosto. Esto no se aplica a los estudiantes de Capital Preparatory Magnet School, que comenzarán su nuevo año escolar en julio.
