teacher of the year 2024

Hartford Public Schools (HPS) is pleased to announce that our 2024 Teacher of the Year is Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty, a 2nd grade teacher from West Middle School. The announcement was made at a ceremony tonight at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.

Inspired by her mother Jacqueline Vicenty-Ithier, who is the 2024 Teacher of the Year nominee from Naylor School, Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty strives to provide the very best learning opportunities for all students. She has been teaching in Hartford for eight years and is committed to being a life-long learner, always looking for ways to improve her teaching skills. Her students say their classroom motto is ‘Si Se Puede,” and Ms. Ithier-Vicenty encourages them to persevere through any challenge, no matter how big or how small.

“Yasmin is absolutely engaging,” said West Middle School principal Joshua Scherer. “She brings so much energy and enthusiasm.”

“Ms. Ithier-Vicenty exemplifies what it means to be a teacher in Hartford Public Schools,” said Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez. “Her innovative approach to education, passion for providing equitable opportunities for students, and belief that every student can succeed is why she was chosen as Teacher of the Year. I am so grateful for her service to our students. Congratulations to Ms. Ithier-Vicenty and all of our Teacher of the Year nominees!”

Earlier this year, 38 HPS schools each nominated one teacher who exhibits exemplary teaching skills and a commitment to the belief that all children can learn and succeed. A district-wide committee made up of HPS directors, officials from the Hartford Federation of Teachers, and previous Teacher of the Year winners narrowed the group to three finalists after an intensive screening and interview process.
