<NEW> Congratulations to our 2024 Teacher of the Year
I am so excited to announce that our 2024 Teacher of the Year is Ms. Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty from West Middle School! Ms. Ithier-Vicenty was selected by the Teacher of the Year Committee for her excellence in the classroom and the impact she has on her students. Inspired by her mother, who is also a 2024 Teacher of the Year nominee, Ms. Ithier-Vicenty believes in bringing learning to life in her classroom. She is constantly striving to become a better educator and provide the best learning opportunities for her students. Ms. Ithier-Vicenty was one of 38 nominees from across the district and one of three finalists, along with Ms. Jacqueline Rankin from Bulkeley High School and Ms. Angela Blake from Betances STEM Magnet School.
Congratulations to all of our Teacher of the Year nominees! I also want to express my deep gratitude for the work that all of our educators do each and every day. I am so proud to work in a district filled with so many talented and passionate teachers.
<NEW> Congratulations to our Paraeducator of the Year
This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Sanchez School to surprise Mr. Terrell Hudson with the news that he is our Paraeducator of the Year! Mr. Hudson is incredibly dedicated to helping students and creating a welcoming and nurturing environment at Sanchez School. He is also committed to professional growth, graduating just last week with his bachelor’s degree from Springfield College! Thank you to Mr. Hudson and all of our paraeducators for the important work they do in our schools.
<NEW> Graduation Season Underway!
Congratulations to the seniors at Capital Preparatory Magnet School who graduated today! I am so proud of all that you’ve accomplished, and I wish you great success in your postsecondary journey. I am excited to see what the future holds for each of you! Capital Prep is our first school to hold commencement ceremonies. You can see the full graduation schedule here. Best of luck to all of our seniors!
The District will be closed on Monday, May 27 as we observe Memorial Day, a time to remember and honor the men and women who lost their lives serving our country. I encourage you to take this opportunity to reflect on their sacrifice. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 28.

<NUEVO> Felicitaciones a nuestro docente del año 2024
Me complace anunciar que nuestra Docente del Año 2024 es la Sra. Yasmin Ithier Vicenty de la Escuela Intermedia West. La Sra. Ithier Vicenty fue elegida como Docente del Año por el Comité por su excelencia en el aula y el impacto que tiene sobre los estudiantes. Inspirada por su madre, quien es también una nominada a Docente del Año 2024, la Sra. Ithier Vicenty cree en dar vida al aprendizaje en su aula. Ella está buscando constantemente convertirse en una mejor educadora y brindar mejores oportunidades de aprendizaje a sus estudiantes. La Sra. <NUEVO> ¡Felicitaciones a nuestro Paraeducador del año!
¡Esta semana, tuve el placer de visitar la Escuela Sánchez para sorprender al Sr. Terrel Hudson con la noticia de que él es nuestro Paraeducador del año! El Sr. Hudson es increíblemente dedicado a ayudar a los estudiantes y crear un ambiente acogedor y enriquecedor en la Escuela Sánchez. También está comprometido con el crecimiento profesional, se acaba de graduar la semana pasada, obteniendo un título de Licenciado del Colegio Universitario Springfield! Gracias al Sr. Hudson y a todos nuestros paraeducadores por el importante trabajo que hacen en nuestras escuelas.
<NUEVO> ¡Ya llega la temporada de graduaciones!
¡Felicitaciones a los estudiantes del último año de la Escuela Secundaria Técnica/Artística Capital que se graduaron el día de hoy! Estoy muy orgulloso de lo que han logrado y les deseo gran éxito en su trayectoria después de la secundaria. ¡Me entusiasma ver lo que el futuro les depara a cada uno de ustedes! La Escuela Secundaria Capital es la primera de nuestras escuelas en celebrar ceremonias de graduación. <RECORDATORIO> Distrito cerrado con motivo del Día de los Caídos
El Distrito estará cerrado el lunes, 27 de mayo, para conmemorar el Día de los Caídos, un momento para recordar y honrar a los hombres y mujeres que perdieron su vida al servicio de nuestro país. Los animo a aprovechar esta oportunidad para reflexionar sobre su sacrificio. Las clases se reanudarán el martes, 28 de mayo.
