<NEW> Leadership Listening Sessions
I am so proud to be the Superintendent of a school district with so many beautiful and capable students who use their voice to share their ideas and advocate for their peers. This week, district leaders and I visited our high schools to talk with students about their educational experience. We asked them what they like about school and what they would like to change to improve their experience. I was inspired and empowered by the conversations. The ideas, experiences, and perspectives of our students are invaluable. I am eager to use their input to guide our decisions for the 2024-2025 school year so every student feels empowered and engaged.
Congratulations to the winners and all participants of our HPS STEM Fair! I had a great time meeting our young innovators and scientists and hearing what they learned from their projects. There were more than 380 student projects on display, making it our biggest STEM fair yet! I want to thank our STEM department and our teachers who guided and supported the students throughout the project development process. I’m grateful for their commitment to fostering a love of science, technology, engineering and math. I also want to shout out our students for their critical thinking, curiosity and innovative ideas!
The countdown is on! It might be hard to believe, but there are just about two weeks left of the 2023-2024 school year! I know you’re looking forward to the well-deserved summer break, but I want to remind you how important it is to make sure you keep coming to school until the last day. Not only will you continue to learn important information over the next couple of weeks, but I know your schools will have some fun end-of-year activities planned as well! We have seen significant improvements in chronic absenteeism this school year, and I encourage you to keep up the great work. As a reminder, you can find out your school’s last day here.
<REMINDER> Summer Reading Kick Off Tomorrow
I hope you can join me tomorrow, June 1, for a kick off to our Summer Reading Challenge! I’m joining the Hartford Public Library to celebrate the start of summer learning with a parade around the Downtown Library Branch (500 Main Street) and a festival of family-friendly activities. The parade begins at 1:00 pm, and it will be followed by live entertainment, face painting, balloon twisting, ice cream, games, activities and more! You can find out more information about the event, including how to access free transportation to Downtown, here. Don’t forget to dress up as your favorite literary character! I hope to see you there!

<NUEVO> Sesiones de escucha de la directiva
Me enorgullece mucho ser Superintendente de un distrito escolar con tantos estudiantes hermosos y capaces que usan su voz para compartir sus ideas y abogar por sus compañeros. Esta semana, la directiva del distrito y yo visitamos nuestras escuelas secundarias para hablar con los estudiantes sobre su experiencia educativa. Les preguntamos qué les gusta de la escuela y qué les gustaría cambiar para mejorar su experiencia. Las conversaciones me inspiraron y capacitaron. Las ideas, experiencias y perspectivas de nuestros estudiantes son invaluables. Ansío usar sus aportaciones para orientar nuestras decisiones para el año escolar 2024-2025 para que cada estudiante se sienta capacitado e involucrado.
<NUEVO> ¡Celebración de la innovación en la feria STEM!
¡Felicitaciones a los ganadores y a todos los participantes de nuestra Feria de ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (STEM, por sus siglas en inglés) de las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford! La pasé muy bien conociendo a nuestros jóvenes innovadores y científicos y escuchando lo que aprendieron de sus proyectos. ¡Hubo más de 380 proyectos estudiantiles en exhibición, ¡lo que la convierte en nuestra feria STEM más grande hasta la fecha! Deseo agradecer a nuestro Departamento STEM y a nuestros docentes que orientaron y apoyaron a los estudiantes durante todo el proceso de desarrollo del proyecto. Agradezco su compromiso de fomentar el amor por la ciencia, la tecnología, la ingeniería y la matemática. También quiero felicitar a nuestros estudiantes por su pensamiento crítico, su curiosidad y sus ideas innovadoras!
<RECORDATORIO> ¡Quedan dos semanas de clases!
¡Comienza la cuenta regresiva! Puede ser difícil de creer, ¡pero solo quedan unas dos semanas del año escolar 2023-2024! Sé que están a la espera de las bien merecidas vacaciones de verano, pero deseo recordarles lo importante que es asegurarse de seguir viniendo a la escuela hasta el último día. No solo seguirán aprendiendo información importante durante las próximas dos semanas, sino que sé que sus escuelas también tendrán planeadas algunas divertidas actividades de fin de año. Este año escolar, hemos visto mejorías significativas en el absentismo y los animo a continuar trabajando así de bien. Como recordatorio, pueden consultar el último día de su escuela aquí.
<RECORDATORIO> La lectura de verano inicia mañana
¡Espero que puedan acompañarme mañana, 1.° de junio, para el inicio de nuestro Desafío de lectura de verano! Me uno a la Biblioteca Pública de Hartford para celebrar el inicio del aprendizaje de verano con un desfile alrededor de la sucursal de la Biblioteca, en el centro de la ciudad (500 Main Street), y un festival de actividades familiares. ¡El desfile comienza a la 1:00 p. m. y luego habrá entretenimiento en vivo, pintacaras, globoflexia, helados, juegos, actividades y mucho más! Aquí, puede encontrar más información sobre el evento, incluso sobre cómo acceder al transporte gratuito desde el centro de la ciudad. ¡No olviden vestirse como sus personajes literarios favoritos! ¡Espero verlos allá!
