West Middle School 2nd grade teacher, Yasmin Ithier-Vicenty, was selected as a Top 4 Finalist in the statewide Teacher of the Year competition!
Ms. Ithier-Vicenty was selected as the 2024 Hartford Public Schools Teacher of the Year in May by a districtwide committee. As the district winner, she was entered in the state competition for the 2025 Connecticut Teacher of the Year. After an intensive interview process, Ms. Ithier-Vicenty made it to the final four of the competition. Ultimately, an educator from New Haven was crowned the winner.
"Hearing my name announced as the 2024 Hartford Public Schools Teacher of the Year was such an amazing honor. To get this far in the journey towards Connecticut Teacher of the Year as a finalist is a dream come true and an accomplishment that I will never forget!" said Ms. Ithier-Vicenty. "I am so proud to represent my family, my West Middle School community, and all of Hartford Public Schools as a Connecticut Teacher of the Year finalist."
Ms. Ithier-Vicenty said she is grateful for her students, coworkers, community, administrators, directors, and family for their love, support and encouragement. She pledges to continue to work hard every day for her students.
"I am so proud that Yasmin was a finalist for Connecticut Teacher of the Year. She is truly one of the best educators that I have observed," said West Middle School Principal Joshua Scherer. "Her instruction has been used both within Hartford and outside of Hartford to demonstrate quality instruction. She is the heart of our school."
Ms. Ithier-Vicenty will be celebrated with all of the Connecticut district-level Teachers of the Year at a ceremony on Thursday, November 6 at the Bushnell.
The Connecticut Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952 to honor and recognize teacher excellence. It is sponsored by the Department of Education in partnership with the Connecticut Teacher of the Year Council.
