Mayor Milner, the first Black Mayor of Hartford, the first popularly elected Black Mayor in New England, State Senator, mentor, and the namesake of our Thirman L. Milner Middle School passed away Friday at the age of 91. On behalf of Hartford Public Schools, we extend our deepest condolences to Mayor Milner’s family, friends, and loved ones.

Milner also served in the Connecticut House of Representatives and in the Connecticut Senate. We stand in solidarity with our community as we reflect on his contributions in Hartford and beyond. We continue to honor his legacy at Milner Middle School, and throughout our entire school district by working tirelessly to create opportunities for all students to succeed.
