Read Across America 2025

Hartford Public Schools kicked-off Read Across America Day at West Middle Community School on Thursday, March 6. We were joined by our Hartford Public Schools Community, State Senator Doug McCrory, and our partners from United Way, the Hartford Public Library, Voce, NBC CT's Caitlin Burchill, and more!

At West Middle Community School and across the city, volunteers visited classrooms to read, “Isabel and Her Colores Go to School" by Alexandra Alessandri, a book about making friends, to our 2nd grade students. Some readers read to classrooms in the Spanish language! The West Middle Community School event also featured a delightful performance from the Hartford Youth Chorus. It was the perfect opportunity to promote literacy and foster a love of reading among our students.

Special thanks to all of our partners, Senator McCrory, volunteers, and staff for their support of this important event. Special thanks to Asylum Hill Church for providing parking, and to American Eagle Financial Credit Union for donating the books which were all left in the classrooms by the volunteer readers.
