We are so proud of University High School of Science and Engineering senior, Liam McCusker who is using his voice to advocate for education equity. His op-ed, “Equal Opportunity in the State’s Public Education System Must Be Funded,” was published in the Hartford Courant on March 23, calling for increased state funding to ensure all CT students have access to equal opportunities. Liam and Hartford Public Schools hope it finds its way to the office of Governor Ned Lamont because every student deserves the resources to succeed.
Excerpt: "...I am also keenly aware that differences in funding and higher needs means that many of the education opportunities I enjoyed are simply unavailable to other students like me. This is not acceptable. It’s time for public education to be treated as a right that must be equitably funded and not as a privilege contingent on winning a magnet school lottery or being born in the right zip code."
