Community Meetings are a wonderful Breakthrough tradition that started when our school first opened, led by Founding Principal Norma Neumann-Johnson. This is a special time when the whole school community can come together to celebrate different cultures and traditions, learn more about a topic, share news, and invite special guests and performers. We align our topics with our Character Education (B.R.I.C.K.) & Leadership theme, as well as with different monthly cultural heritage celebrations. We love to have students involved in presenting and performing at Community Meeting, as well as exposing students to special guests and visitors.
Over the years (especially after the pandemic), as we have seen our school change and evolve, so has our Community Meeting schedule and format. In the past, we held a school-wide Community Meeting every Friday morning. For the last couple of years, we have changed that to 1 school-wide CM a month, with the other weeks in the month being smaller “town hall meetings” for specific grade levels and/or middle school crew vs crew challenges! Whenever we have our monthly school-wide Community Meetings, we want to make sure that parents and families know that they are also welcome to attend! It is generally on a Wednesday morning from 9:00-9:30 am in the Gymatorium.
