Local rapper and schoolteacher Joey Batts’ annual Hip Hop for the Homeless live music benefits, which raises money and awareness for the needy in Connecticut, claimed that last year was its biggest ever with nine shows.
This year, the statewide concert series offers 10 separate events — nine in Connecticut and one in Massachusetts — including such well-known venues as Parkville Market and the Iron Horse.
Hip Hop for the Homeless raises thousands of dollars each year for emergency shelters that serve the homeless in winter. Over $8,000 was raised in 2023, and $6,500 in 2022. Donations of new clothing and non-perishable food items are also collected. Last year, the organization gained non-profit status.
