On October 26, 2023, MD Fox School staff and students rolled out the red carpet to host our community of partners and volunteer readers for the 2023 Jumpstart Read for the Record.
Some of the MD Fox Student Council
The student council welcomed all guests warmly and after the kick-off ceremony escorted readers to the classrooms where they shared with students “With Lots of Love,” a story about a child who moves from Central America to the United States, but is missing life back home. More than half of our students identify as Hispanic or Latino, and many have moved here from places like the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and more so this story was especially relevant and moving. Hartford Public Library provided book copies that were left with the classrooms as a gift by the over 200 volunteer readers organized by United Way of Northeastern and Central Connecticut.
The MD Fox School Drum Line
The MD Fox School Drum Line , led by their proud music teacher, Mr. Prescod, opened the kick-off event with gusto, followed by speakers including Principal Kevin Geissler, Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, Eric Harrison, United Way CEO, and Bridget Quinn, HPL CEO, plus an adorable dance performance by 2nd grade MD Fox student, Sherlyn Mendoza.
