Patricia Hahn, an exceptional educator and 3rd grade teacher from Parkville Community School, has earned the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, announced this year.
On March 18, members of the HPS Academics team with Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning Dr. Daisy Torres-Hill, Executive Director of School Leadership Dr. Arria Coburn, Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning Mario Carullo, the entire staff of Parkville Community School, and even Ms. Hahn's husband, surprised Ms. Hahn at a special "staff meeting". She also received a certificate and flowers, and watched a surprise video collaboration made by school staff, teachers, students and even the school mascot sharing their congratulatory messages for Ms. Hahn. (A box of tissues was on hand!) Everyone enjoyed cake and conversation.
The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is a prestigious honor and the highest recognition a K-12 STEM teacher can receive from the U.S. government, and Ms. Hahn is one of only 110 teachers selected nationwide for this accolade for outstanding classroom instruction. It is a testament to her hard work and dedication to her students in helping them excel in mathematics. I’d like to congratulate Ms. Hahn on this well-deserved recognition. Thank you for serving as an inspiration for our Hartford Public Schools community in nurturing student achievement in mathematics and beyond.
