Family Learning Sessions September 2024

Mark your calendars for our September Family Learning Sessions! Participate in engaging, important sessions that are great for families of children and youth of all ages! 

All presentations will take place at Capital Community College at 950 Main Street, Hartford in the second floor Community Room from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM. PLUS dinner, childcare, Spanish interpretation, and parking validation in the Morgan Street Garage are all provided. Amanda Naimie, a Teaching Artist, will be providing art activities for the kids!

Our first session on September 5 is facilitated by Alice Farrell JD, LCSW, MSW from Olive Branch Clinical and Consulting Services, LLC, and it's called Raising Resilient Children – Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

Alice Farrell's Workshop Objectives are to:
1. Describe at least three fundamental principles of positive parenting
2. Discuss the relationship between child development and social, emotional, and behavioral skills and academic learning
3. Identify at least three strategies that can be used to help children learn how to identify and express their emotions appropriately
4. Share at least four strategies that can help children deal with adversities
5. Explain how teaching children specific communication and problem-solving skills helps increase their resilience

The goal is to equip parents with the insights and tools to promote healthy social-emotional functioning in order to help students thrive academically and in life. Research shows that these support strategies can make meaningful differences in struggling students' attitudes, behaviors, and learning capacities.
